I embarked on my academic journey with a fervor for science and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the world. Graduating from Arrowhead High School with honors, I initially pursued a degree in Biomolecular Engineering, driven by a passion for chemistry and the possibility for scientific advancements that could help those less able. However, I soon discovered my innate affinity for human-centered research and my power of storytelling. As I transitioned into the field of UX, I found the perfect intersection of art and science. Providing a blend of creativity, research, and psychology, I am now stretching my creative side and connecting with people's experiences.
Over the past few years, my strengths in writing and wants to understand others' perspectives have flourished, influenced in part by my love for poetry. I've been honored by the recognition of several professors for my research and storytelling work. While my experience primarily stems from my academic journey at MSOE, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with local organizations, gaining real-world experience through in class projects.
My path hasn't been without its challenges, including a rough freshman year, cornered by academic, personal and environmental struggle. Yet, resilience and determination led me to overcome adversity, propelling me to consistent recognition on the Dean's List and receiving praise from faculty for my progress in the UX field.
Driven by my high energy, creativity, and passion for my work, I thrive both independently and when collaborating with others, striving for inclusivity in everything I do. My unique background, as an adoptee with a father who served in the U.S. Military overseas, instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and the importance of ensuring no one feels left behind. I carry this commitment into my work and everyday life, aiming to create meaningful and accessible experiences for all.

"Joseph, even reading this short essay, I can tell that you're a writer. I don't know if you know this, but your prose is so descriptive and vivid, it's really powerful. I can't wait to read more of your work this term! (You're also pretty clearly a researcher.)" - Dr. Katie Panciera
"Joseph! You seriously made my day. I have not had a student make me laugh and be so proud in a long time. I am so happy that I've been able to help you grow as an individual as a result of this class...which is why I LOVE teaching it. On that note, I loved everything about your video and, most importantly, love that you have seen positive impacts in your life by implementing Kanban, scrum, and an agile mindset into your personal and professional life. I gave you 20 extra points because I was so impressed with your video. I hope to see this in your portfolio. I think you've found your passion within the UX space. Lean even further into your video storytelling expertise. Thank you for making me laugh and making my day brighter." - Professor Amii Lapointe
"Joseph, your essay here is absolutely brilliant! The Canvas system will not allow me to give you an A+ but that's what your grade really should be." - Dr. Katherine Wikoff
